Time for the Sky

I’ve not posted any new sky pix in a while, being more home-centered than skyward looking…however, I have spent time this evening in updating and editing my photos. Before I discard everything, I’ll drop in some of my favorite sky photos from March to June!

Trying a new format, using the slide-show function..let me know if you like it!

Returning to the fray…

It’s hump day.

Middle of the week day.

A cool day in the middle of a cool week.

And I’ve done butkiss on the front hall reno. I’ve been swamped with piecework, and feeling a bit blah…napping during the day to try to get over it…whatever “it” is.

But today.

I’m feeling like if I don’t make some headway…that I’ll never get back up on that ladder when it’s cool…instead I’ll be trying to can tomatoes AND scrape wallpaper when it’s August and humid and blecch.

And last night I dreamt of stripping wallpaper.

Even the freaking FATES are telling me to get off my fat ass and get to work!!

Hoping to catch the electrician across the street when he is home and remind him of my wiring work…coz all work will screeeeeetch to a halt until E comes over to do the wiring for the three new light fixtures.

And in the midst of all these “to do” things (why do BOTH piecework jobs come in at the same time? )  …my curtain rods came in yesterday, to finish the living room.

Never rains but it pours, eh?

A Post about NOT Posting…

The front hall is a work in progress.

Okay, and there isn’t much progress.

Last week, wife and kids  went off to camp in the White Mtns . And it was danged hot/humid here on Thursday when they left.

They left, and I jumped into wallpaper removal. You know, all those stuck-on bits that didn’t come off at all easily.

I tried. It wasn’t for lack of trying. I did get the biggest wall done. All those frigging stuck on shitbits that held on for dear freaking life…gone. And the tall side by the door…yup that’s done too. Now I have two over the door places (two different doors) the other Far Wall (but only a 15″ wide strip floor to ceiling) and over and under the Wall of Windows. It’s not much. It’s just that it is so fucking stuck on there.

I admit. I’m thinking about cheating. About putting the mud OVER the freaking stuck on like concrete wallpaper. It’s not the right way.

But it might just be my way.

just sayin’….

Note the big section still to do over the door on the right? That little half over the left door took more than an hour.  I told you it was stuck on tight. They sure knew how to paper tight, 45 years ago!!

On the other hand, after sweltering, and deciding to call it a day, I figured painting Lissa’s room wouldn’t be too bad…and it wasn’t…thank goodness there was one easy room in the house!! Here are the before pics, so I can forever immortalize the Winnie the Pooh pics I painted for the boys when this was Rob’s room, and almost KC’s room!

The paint has to cure for three weeks before we can attach the “Wallies” to it…a princess castle, and all the Disney princesses…the princess curtains are up and the room has become that of …a little princess.

PS the stupid gallery will not take out the front hall shots unless I totally put every single Pooh picture in, individually. You know I have no patience for that today, right?

Living room, done.

And then we HAD to start the front hall….it looked so so so bad after how nice the living room came out…

This will be the new wall color (paint, rather than paper…

Hard to show the color…it’s called Carmine Red…it had a tone of orange to it but not too much…Here’s a few more shots..

Same color, using the flash…

Who is that woman scraping wallpaper? OHHH…it’s LEE! *grin*….and of course the color looks ruby in this shot. Sigh. Well, it’s a complimentary color to the living room and the stair hall, which has a lot of pink and blue in it, but blue carpeting.

After the paper comes down, I need to “mud” the walls, then prime, then caulking, then paint the woodwork (there is a TON of woodwork) and then paint the walls. I’ll be done by Tuesday.

Tuesday, the 26th of July.

Hopefully it won’t be too humid next week and the mudding will dry quick enough that I can second coat it the same day. Still TONS of work to do, but of course, there are two more rooms waiting in the wings…the dining room wallpaper and repaint for August, and Elisabeth’s room (farewell, Pooh, hello princesses)…

And then I’ll be done…for a while. The joy of old houses…and the curse…is that you are never, really, done. 🙂
